THE STATUS OF THE TANZANIA EDUCATION NETWORK (TENET)

TENET is a national network program involving networking the Higher and Technical Institutions, the Teachers Training colleges and, the secondary and primary schools which are spread through out the country that has an area of more than 945,000 km2 and a population of more than 32 Million people. So far it is the Teacher Training colleges that have been networked through the SIDA assistance.

One option of implementing the TENET project is to incorporate it in the national backbone project. The basic OFC networks suitable for the National backbone applications are separately owned by the following institutions TANESCO, TAZARA, TRC and SONGAS which covers all regions of the country. The second option is to construct TENET project as conceived by Samsung Company of Korea. The project covers more than 54 institutions and 422 km of network deployment.

The Nation-wide Education Network will comprise of Metro access networks from each regions connected together, buildings within the institutions will be networked with High-speed LAN environment extending within the campus, also enabling to access high-speed internet by optic fiber or wireless.
