MozIX, the Internet exchange in Mozambique

The purpose of this presentation is to give an insight of the importance of Internet Exchange Points (IXP) and how to build them. In the presentation we will show the technology that is behind the IXPs as well as to reflect on the driving forces behind their development. In this we will show the economical, organization, politics and operations behind the IXP.
We will also reflect on the experience of development of one Internet Exchange in Mozambique, called MozIX that was done by KTH students under a sponsorship of Sida and DFID.
Américo Muchanga is an Electronics Engineer and a PhD student with TSLAB at KTH. His main interest is the Inter domain routing for optical networks. He is involved with telecommunications since 1990 and has pioneered the Internet in Mozambique. He is a Director of Center for Informatics of Eduardo Mondlane University and a member of the Executive Secretariate of the Mozambican Information Policy Commission.
