    Scope
    The purpose is to identify successful solutions and standards for access networks providing open universal access (First Mile), as well as sustainable business models for operation and maintenance of such networks which could be disseminated as best practices.

    The workshop will present and discuss successful examples of communication applications in developing countries and rural areas with an emphasis on schools and small businesses and their role as primary adopters in communities. The focus is on regional prerequisites, communication needs, choice of technology, business model, competence for operation and maintenance and other factors that affect the sustainability.
